We'll be putting on a parent's night out for the families of Grace, offering childcare for a date night, and also making thank-you bags full of treats for our incredible Grace family to set out on Sunday! This is a fun chance to say thank-you for all our Church does to support and enable us to do so many amazing things like Nerf Nights, Mission's Weeks, and more.

Speaking of Nerf Nights, we've got one of those the following week, Friday the 20th! We'll be getting together for a night of frenetic fun dinner included! Feel free to bring your own guns and gear as we battle it out from 6-9pm that evening!

Other than that, we'll have a bit of a switch-up during the month as Pastor Jonathan will be away on missions in Rwanda from the 18th of February until the 4th of March! Our incredible Youth Leadership team will be filling in during their absence though, so we won't skip a beat, and we'll have plenty of fun in their absence! If you want more info on the Rwanda trip head on over to the Rwanda page on the Grace Website.
If you have questions before then, feel free to find Jonathan at Church, or shoot him an email!

Calendars
Upcoming Events

Youth Events Calendar

Women's Ministry Calendar

Grace Seniors Calendar

Grace Airways Calendar

Men's Ministry Calendar

Extras

Christmas at Grace

Connect Calendar

Grace Airways Pilots

Check In Test

VBS

This occurs by speaking and breathing life into people who are already in our daily lives. What does it mean to extend God’s invitation to a lost and broken world?

The Great Commission - Our Calling to Share the Gospel - Jesus commands His followers to go out and share His message everywhere. Evangelism is not optional as it is the mission of every believer. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surly I will be with you always to the very end of the age” Matthew 28-19-20.

The Power of the Gospel - The gospel itself carries the transforming power of God. When we share it, we’re offering other access to that life-changing power. “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes” Romans 1:16.

God’s Desire for All to Be Saved - Evangelism reflects God’s heart as God desires everyone to turn to Him and experience grace. “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” 2 Peter 3:9.

The Example of Jesus’ Mission - Jesus came to reach the lost and His followers continue that mission by sharing His message of salvation and hope. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost” Luke 19:10.

Shining God’s Light - Evangelism includes living a way that reflects God’s love so others are drawn to Him through our example. “You are light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house” Matthew 5:14-16.

As you ponder the above list of evangelizing or extending God’s invitation, take a moment and rate yourself. On a scale of 1 to 3 (with 1 being you never do it, 2 you sometimes do it, and 3 you always do it) where would you rate yourself on: sharing the gospel, providing others with the power of the gospel, reflecting God’s heart with everyone being saved, helping reach the lost, and shining God’s light?

There are several practical ways we, as women, can evangelize. The intention is to extend God’s invitation to offer hope where there is despair, love where there is loneliness, and truth where there is confusion. It’s joining God in His redemptive work helping others find their way home to His kingdom where forgiveness, purpose, and eternal life awaits. As you read the list of ideas below think about the people you know in your life (family, friends, acquaintances, children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, neighbors, church family) and how you might be able to impart God’s truth and hope. Who in your world orbit could benefit though speaking the words of life?

Proclaiming the Message of Hope - We tell others that through Jesus, forgiveness, reconciliation, and new life are available (Romans 10:14-15). The gospel declares that no one is beyond God’s reach, no matter how lost or broken.

Demonstrating God’s Love - Evangelism isn’t only about words as it’s about showing God’s compassion through our actions. When we serve, forgive, and love others selflessly, we reflect the heart of God and make His Kingdom visible on earth (Matthew 5:16).

Inviting Relationship, Not Religion - Extending God’s invitation means inviting others into personal relationship with God, not simply adherence to rules or traditions (Galatians 3:23-24). It’s about helping people discover their identity and purpose as beloved children of God.

Participating in God’s Restorative Work - The world is marked by pain, injustice, and despair, but God’s kingdom brings healing, justice, and peace. Evangelism invites people to become part of that renewal (2 Corinthians 5:18-20) by joining God in bringing light into darkness.

Evangelism means sharing and living the gospel so others can encounter the love of Christ and accept His invitation to be part of His kingdom where grace, mercy, and new life abound. Have you answered the call of evangelism? If so, keep it up my dear sister. If not, what are you waiting for?

This devotional was written by Jen Harding Middleton. Whether our lived experience of home is positive or negative, we all have a sense of what it is supposed to mean. Home is meant to be a place where we are always welcome, where something yummy is baking in the oven when we walk inside, where laughter and freely offered hugs abound. It is filled with love, comfort, and the ability to relax and just be yourself. Home is where we belong. Advertisers certainly know that it is a powerful concept, as evidenced by the number of ad campaigns that will trade on the associated imagery during the holiday season.

I've been thinking a lot about home lately. It is the place we say we want to go when everything feels overwhelming or our burdens get too heavy. And yet I am not certain any one of us ever fully experiences all that home means this side of heaven. It is a sentiment that is captured well in a song called Homeward Ache by Heather Suzanne and Ian Austin. It explores how wanting to go home is a lovely characterization of the longing to finally be with God our Father. I encourage you to give it a listen.

Click Here to Listen to Homeward Ache

The song Homeward Ache paints a beautiful picture of how the experiences we have on earth offer a foretaste of the heavenly home that is to come. Jesus Himself tells us that He is making this eternal home ready for us: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." (John 14:1-3)

My heart yearns for my heavenly home in many ways. And yet it also breaks for the people that have not yet figured out there is a heavenly home or who resist Jesus' offer to make a place there for them. Home isn't home without the right people there. And so I feel God's pull to tell them that home is real, not simply an intellectual concept!

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Romans 10:9-15

Home isn't where you're from, it's where you find light when all grows dark.

-Pierce Brown

A shorthand way of explaining that someone is welcome in your home is to tell them that you'll leave a light on for them. It communicates that day or night, you are welcome here.

There are all kinds of reasons that it can be difficult to tell people about Jesus. And sometimes I think we build it up in our heads more than we need to. When we share the gospel, what we're really doing is inviting someone to come home, telling them that our Father has left the light on for them. Desiree Gustafson (publisher) wrote:

“Style is often thought of as something we wear - an outfit, a statement piece, a signature color. But style runs so much deeper. It’s in the way someone greets you with warmth and a genuine smile. It’s in a neighbor who always remembers your dog’s name, or a local shop owner who makes their space feel like home the second you walk through the door. It’s in the thoughtful touches: fresh flowers on a front porch, handwritten notes on thank you cards, or the quiet confidence someone carries when they show up as fully themselves.”

I thought about what Ms. Gustafson said, and I wondered what people would say about my “style.” Do I exhibit the fruits of the spirit (Gal: 5: 22-23)? Life can be difficult, sometimes it’s all I can do to walk through the day. Can I find joy in the simplest of things? More importantly, can I pass on joy to someone else? Is there such a thing as “Christian Style”? And if so, what does it look like? Does it look differently for you than it does for me?

I once watched a show in which one character asks another, “If you gave my eulogy, what would you say about me?” I thought this incredibly powerful. In fact, I wondered if my character was consistent enough that people would say the same thing or would it be different? Would my neighbors and friends say I was kind, long on patience, generous and loving? Would my husband and children know a different me? We sit in our seats at church and nod favorably to Pastor Erik’s sermons. We believe with all our hearts the words of Christ, we say that we want to be like Christ, but…for the most part it is a promise unlikely to be fulfilled. Why? Because we are imperfect people and sometimes there is a disconnect between what we say and what we do. It is probably why non-Christians think of us as hypocrites. But at the time we are staunchly in agreement with our statements of good intent. But I digress - I often do that when I write. =}

Style is about choosing grace over trend, presence over perfection.

-Desiree Gustafson

Stephen Covey in his “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” says that one of the habits is to begin with the end first. So let’s go back to my eulogy - I would hope that people would say that I was kind. I am working toward the humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering, (Col 3:12). I admit I must pray on these often! I try to live gently, meaning I try not to quarrel. Sometimes I just walk away and often wonder “Did I walk away too soon or not soon enough?”

I would also like to think that people could come to me for help. I may or may not have the resources, answers, or skill, but that I would try to help if I could. I want to live more authentically. Yes, I am a daughter of the King, as we all are - and all of us are different. He has given us all talents, skills, understanding, unique to us. Not for us to keep but to share. The “sharing” is our “style.” How we show up, how we serve, how we communicate to those around us is going to be different. Ms. Gustafson also said, “Style is about choosing grace over trend, presence over perfection.” I couldn’t have said it better. Going back to Gal 5:22-23, the concept of fruit refers to the tangible results of actions that demonstrate a life lived under the Spirit’s influence. Sometimes the best we can do is to simply be present, to hold someone’s hand and pray with them.

This devotional was written by Linda Carroll. Well before anyone ever even arrives, we have already been privileged to watch God's handiwork as the event itself came together. I always find myself wishing that instead of engaging with the planned materials, we could just sit down and tell you the stories of how God brought each event together! I thought I would take the opportunity this blogpost presents to relate some of those stories to you, so you too can marvel at His steadfast devotion to guiding His daughters as they seek to serve Him.

The first clear evidence we saw that God was at work in our ministry was the way He brought it into being in the first place! Shauna Scofield mentioned in a Bible study session one evening that she felt God was nudging her to start a women's ministry, and I immediately got excited: "I feel like he's nudging me to start a women's ministry, too!" Shauna and I scheduled coffee together the following Saturday, meeting up at 9:00am. In our conversation, it was very clear that Shauna and I are very different people, but were developing deep appreciation for one another based on the most important thing we have in common: commitment to following Christ. After a delightful chat about our faith journeys, vision for what a women's ministry could be, and bouncing event ideas off one another, we realized we were beginning to feel hungry. We looked at our watches, and it was 1:00pm - we had been talking for four hours! Both of us marveled at how much excitement and momentum God was building into the ministry from the get-go.

<div class="sp-image-holder" style="background-image:url(https://storage1.snappages.site/2V79V4/assets/images/18776187_6000x4000_500.jpg);" data-source="2V79V4/assets/images/18776187_6000x4000_2500.jpg" data-fill="true" data-alt="Photo by <a href="><img src="https://storage1.snappages.site/2V79V4/assets/images/18776187_6000x4000_500.jpg" class="fill" alt="Photo by <a href=" />

About a year later, the evening before one event, one of our Women's Leadership Team members suddenly tested positive for Covid, which meant that all the goodies she had spent the previous couple of days baking for the occasion were quarantined alongside her. The rest of us scurried off to Sam's Club to find acceptable alternatives, praying that there would be enough time and money to fill in the tables with the yummy treats that had been promised in the event advertising. We stumbled upon the most beautiful cupcakes (cue an angelic chorus as light shone down upon exactly what we needed...) at a price point that was much less than we were anticipating. After filling the cart with enough for everyone and hustling back to the church, we then proceeded to drop cupcake containers on the floor, one after another, threatening to smash up our beautiful last-minute, divine-intervention confectionary delights. The Leadership Team looked at one another, and just burst out laughing. After each subsequent container tumble, the situation just got funnier and funnier! We laughed until we cried, and the peals of gaiety melted away our stress. God was placing lightness in our hearts and gifting us with the ability to see beyond the problems to find the humor in the situation. What could have been a disaster of frantic panic wound up being one of the sweetest and most treasured memories of our Leadership Team.

In the lead up to one retreat, we struggled to find a teacher for the third main session we were planning to hold. We asked half a dozen women, and all were unable to commit for one reason or another. Other names came to mind as we thought of who else to consider, but we kept feeling uncertain and unsettled about each one. With each person the Leadership Team considered, there was always one or more of us who felt undecided, often for reasons we could not articulate clearly. We began to become confused and frustrated. I remember praying, "God, do you realize we only have three weeks left until this retreat? Someone needs to take this role on! Who are you going to send us, God?" Then suddenly a woman from the church staff texted me and related that in her morning prayer, she felt God telling her to suggest that we leave the third main session open for prayer, instead of filling it with more teaching and discussion. Though I had become increasingly concerned we would be left high and dry, it turned out God had wanted to send us Himself all along, and that ended up being one of the best received main sessions we've ever had.

The music has always been a difficult component of our event planning. It is the one thing that has consistently fallen through. Pianists have gotten sick, lyric videos have failed to load, and singers have lost their voice last minute. (However, this year God has sent a fabulous Worship Team Leader for our retreat who is doing an amazing job, and we can't wait for you to experience her worship plan!)

<div class="sp-image-holder" style="background-image:url(https://storage1.snappages.site/2V79V4/assets/images/13733355_4032x2268_500.jpg);" data-source="2V79V4/assets/images/13733355_4032x2268_2500.jpg" data-fill="true" data-alt="Photo by <a href="><img src="https://storage1.snappages.site/2V79V4/assets/images/13733355_4032x2268_500.jpg" class="fill" alt="Photo by <a href=" />

Some of you may remember a couple years ago, when the Women's Leadership Team sang at the Christmas event. Though our Repentance Parody Christmas Carol medley was planned and rehearsed (complete with fabulous hats and giant, glittery candy canes), us leading worship was most certainly unplanned.

We had intended for a vocal group to come perform at our event, and unfortunately they double booked and had to drop our event. (Don't worry, we rescheduled and they did a fabulous job at our Christmas event the next year!) This left us with no one to lead worship. Despite having little confidence in our own vocal prowess, the Women's Leadership Team took a huge leap of faith and followed God's prompting to lead worship on our own. We invited everyone to join us in putting aside self-consciousness and sing just for an audience of one--our God and Father. To this day, the worship that followed remains one of the most beautiful, authentic, and meaningful in which I have ever had the privilege of participating.

These are just a few of myriad stories that form the "behind the scenes" work that God accomplishes, guiding us as our women's events come together. Some were small reminders of Him, some were bittersweet, and some required stepping wildly outside of comfort zones, but every one has brought members of our Women's Leadership Team into deeper trust of God's steadfastness. I personally have grown more in my trust of God through serving on the leadership team than I ever imagined I would. He is always working on my heart through the twists and turns of the planning process, and the evidence that He always shows up is overwhelming. The more often I watch Him prove Himself to be steadfast, the easier it becomes to trust He will do it again in the future. Thus, in preparation for another women's retreat in one month's time, as a reminder to myself and to everyone planning to attend, let us join enthusiastically with the chorus of Psalm 100:

Psalm 100

A psalm. Probably our biggest Nerf Night ever, a couple of crazy snow storms, temperatures below zero, and of course having to postpone and reschedule our Valentine's Thank-you Event. But, we're very excited for March, because not only are we giving our Thank-you event another go, but we've also got a board game and art night overnighter and a mission's meeting for this year's Youth Outreach Week in July!

We have a our Thank-you Dinner and Parent's night out on the 7th! All volunteers that evening should come at 4:30pm to set-up and get ready. This event is a thank-you to our church for everything they do in supporting us, including our youth fund, that make it possible to do so much throughout the year and to keep events free or lower cost. I knew Scripture said that, somehow, God loved me, but I couldn’t wrap my head around the thought that He had enough love to accept me just as I was. Somehow, I had to work harder or “clean up” before He would really want to claim me. So spiritually, I worked harder and harder – and my shame got worse.

As I looked back over my life, I reminded Lee of how many people I had “let down,” just by being who I was! My Dad never seemed to accept me. My Mom had me on a diet from the time I was young and required me to wear certain clothing to hide my “weight problem.” My brothers thought I was just an annoying problem they had to share the home with. I had been deemed by my entire family as bossy and overly emotional.

As an adult, my husband left me and our children after 10 years of marriage, for another woman and her children. He used everything he knew I struggled with as excuses for him to leave me. He told our children God would want him to be happy and he certainly wasn’t happy married to me.

At the time I was speaking with Lee, my young adult children were walking away from God, even though I had worked so hard to raise them in a Godly single-parent home. It felt that my life of striving to please God and man was all a waste of time. I was just totally missing the mark as a Christian. Since God really knew how awful I was, I accepted that He could never really love me.

Thankfully, God had led Lee into my life!

She challenged me to find a quiet place where I could just sit before God and ask Him how He saw me. First I thought, “Yeah. Sure. This isn’t going to happen. Why would God do something like reveal Himself to me when I am such a mess?” However, I had taken the challenge from Lee and decided I had nothing to lose.

The first three evenings of sitting quietly and asking God to reveal Himself, nothing happened. I knew God had “better things” to do than deal with me individually and personally. However, one evening, God did “show up.” I can’t say I audibly heard God’s voice. I think it was the Holy Spirit speaking in my heart. It felt like someone was pushing me out of my chair and onto my knees. Then I “heard” that voice say, “Get down,” and I fell on my face on the carpet.

Immediately in my mind I saw a throne with Jesus sitting in it, and with a pudgy little girl with glasses and long curly hair sitting on the arm of the throne. At first I felt sorry for the girl, as she looked just like me in one of my most hated photos from when I was young. Soon I realized it was me and not only was I smiling, but Jesus was turned sideways on his throne and looking right at me! He was also smiling, laughing and talking with me! I had never felt that kind of love, joy and acceptance before in my life. I wasn’t “bugging” God. He really wanted to be with me! The God of the universe cared enough to personally show me His love, even though He spoke it to me every day through His Word and the beauty around me.

The next thing I heard was, “See. I have no book, or transistor radio or TV, but I am totally listening to and enjoying you!” No one could know what that meant to me, except God. When I was small and my Mom would make my Dad hold me on his lap while she bathed my brother, Dad would be watching TV, reading a book, and listening to a game on his transistor radio all at the same time and that was my “quality time” with him. I had not thought of that for years and years and no one else would have understood that observation, but God.

I have no idea how long I laid there on my face, but the carpet was wet from my tears when I finally stood up. What an honor and a privilege that God, Himself, would allow me to observe how HE sees me!

<div class="sp-image-holder" style="background-image:url(https://storage1.snappages.site/2V79V4/assets/images/18217004_5184x3456_500.jpg);" data-source="2V79V4/assets/images/18217004_5184x3456_2500.jpg" data-fill="true" data-alt="Photo by <a href="><img src="https://storage1.snappages.site/2V79V4/assets/images/18217004_5184x3456_500.jpg" class="fill" alt="Photo by <a href=" />

No, I have not had that kind of experience since then, but I can close my eyes and see it all again whenever I start getting discouraged with myself! We've got a lot of fun planned for the beginning of the month, and then an extended break for Christmas and New Years, with an all youth volunteer project and overnighter before everyone goes back to school.

For our volunteering day on Dec 7th we'll be visiting The Good Samaritan Society from 10:30 - 11:30 to spread some Christmas joy by writing Christmas cards and visiting with the residents there. After that we'll grab some lunch, and then head over to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store from 1-3pm to help out with whatever needs they have. Both of these are great opportunities to serve and help our community and we hope you'll join us for one or both of them!

We'll be doing our annual Christmas light scavenger hunts on the 8th (9th-12th grade) and 11th (6th-8th grade) respectively. Those will take place during our regular youth meetings, but our times for those will be extended as a result, so make sure you check the calendar and come ready to help us in our search!

Our annual All Youth Christmas Party will be on Sunday the 15th, from 6-9pm, with everything you know and love including our White Elephant Bingo! Visit the sign-up page for more info and make sure to invite a friend that evening for all the Christmas fun!

Finally, we're doing a Caroling & Movie Night on the 21st to close out our Christmas celebrations this year. We'll gather at the church and go caroling to our neighbors, then come back to the church for a Christmas treat potluck and a movie, along with hot cocoa and apple cider. This is going to be our last event of the year so mark your calendar and come ready to sing and share the Christmas spirit!

Calendars
Upcoming Events

Youth Events Calendar

Women's Ministry Calendar

Grace Seniors Calendar

Grace Airways Calendar

Men's Ministry Calendar

Extras

Christmas at Grace

Connect Calendar

Grace Airways Pilots

Check In Test

VBS
