For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
-2 Corinthians 7:10

Have you ever had sorrow over sin in your life that has not led to repentance? Have you kept something buried you know is sinful but thought if you keep it hidden deep enough it won't be a big deal? Or have you been urged by the Holy Spirit to act on something and you chose to ignore the task, but you can't get it off your mind knowing that you should have acted on it?

All of us can answer yes to any of these questions, and recall where our sorrow without repentance has led to discouragement and remorse. Satan's goal is to discourage you and keep you in bondage of unrepentant sin, guilt or remorse. He wants you to become frustrated, turning your anger inward and becoming depressed, because these feelings undermine your relationship with God. When we have Godly sorrow, it leads to a change in the way we live and see things. It makes us stronger, because it helps us accept God's truth and unconditional forgiveness.

If God has put His finger on something in your life, convicting you of some sin, relationship, or ungodly attitude, He will not leave you alone until you deal with it. He wants you to repent.

This exercise can be done in many ways with water, fire, scissors, etc., but the purpose of the exercise is that you brought your sin before the Lord in an effort to remove any barrier(s) between you and Him.  When we come before the Father in humility of our depravity, and surrender our flaws, weaknesses, failures and any sin, we can come with confidence that He will set us free from the bondage we have carried for days, weeks and even years, when we never needed to carry it to begin with.  

Praise God we can come before Him in repentance at any time for anything and He will welcome us with open arms to sit with Him and not feel guilty, as He will cleanse us of all our sin.  Our confession leads to repentance, which leads to restoration, which leads to a barrier free relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Our spiritual freedom is worth the cost of the cross that our Savior gave His life on.  The least we can do is utilize it to the fullest advantage that it was meant for.

My hope is that you are encouraged to surrender your deep wounds, sin and any burden you are carrying and bring it before the Lord so He can restore your soul and you can begin walking in the freedom and closeness He wants to have with you.  Please know that you do not walk alone in this.  Your sisters in Christ are here to walk with you.  Don’t hesitate to reach out so we can pray with you, encourage you and walk alongside you as well.  May you be blessed abundantly by God’s forgiveness, grace and mercy.
